ABSTRACT

In addition to intelligence quotient (IQ) and emotional quotient (EQ), digital intelligence (DQ) is essential for thriving in the modern digital society. DQ encompasses technical, cognitive, and socio-emotional competencies rooted in ethical and responsible digital behavior. This descriptive mixed-method study aimed to determine the digital life skills of pre-service teacher education students at St. Paul University Philippines, based on the eight core DQ Citizenship Skills (DQ Institute, 2023). Data were gathered from 36 participants using a researcher-made questionnaire and open-ended questions. Quantitative results revealed that participants demonstrated a very high level of digital life skills across all eight domains—screen time management, privacy management, cyber bullying management, digital citizen identity, digital footprint management, cyber security management, critical thinking, and digital empathy. Qualitative insights emphasized challenges in managing information overload, digital distraction, and the complexity of online tools, yet highlighted fulfillment in online learning and the importance of digital responsibility. Findings suggest that participants are digitally competent and prepared to navigate the complexities of the digital age.
