ABSTRACT

Environmental protection has become a central concern in national policy agendas worldwide as governments respond to pressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. These responses have taken diverse forms, including legislative frameworks, economic incentives, and technological innovations. As one of the world’s largest developing countries, China has actively advanced environmental protection through the enactment of comprehensive environmental laws and regulations, the promotion of renewable energy development, and the implementation of energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies. In addition, the Chinese government has strengthened regulatory oversight of pollutant-emitting enterprises to mitigate industrial pollution. In Guangdong Province, rural ecological environmental protection presents a complex and multifaceted challenge. Rapid economic development, urbanization, agricultural modernization, and rural construction have intensified pressure on ecological systems and increased resource consumption. At the same time, rising living standards and growing environmental awareness among rural residents have heightened demand for effective ecological environmental protection. As a result, strengthening the management and implementation of rural ecological environmental protection policies has become an urgent priority and a key strategy for achieving sustainable rural development in the province. This study aims to comprehensively examine the implementation of rural ecological environmental protection policies in Guangdong Province and assess the level of farmers’ understanding of these policies. By analyzing policy implementation and residents’ awareness in rural areas, the study seeks to provide empirical evidence to support more effective policy execution and contribute to the improvement of rural ecological environmental governance in Guangdong Province, China.
