ABSTRACT
Strokes are a leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide, with significant long-term impacts on survivors and their caregivers. In low- and middle-income countries like Indonesia, the lack of rehabilitation services exacerbates the burden on caregivers, who often receive no formal training. This research aimed to address this gap by developing a structured support system through a home-based support program for informal caregivers of post-stroke patients in Indonesia. The study employed a design and development research (DDR) methodology using a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative focus group discussions to identify the specific needs of caregivers. The findings highlight the multifaceted challenges caregivers face, including the need for information, home-based care skills, social support, and other resources. Based on these insights, a comprehensive home-based support program was designed, incorporating education, skills development, social support, and additional components. The study recommends implementing this program across Indonesia, emphasizing the crucial role of healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, in supporting informal caregivers.
