ABSTRACT
This dissertation assessed the implementation of the Digital Media Course at Pearl River College of South China Agricultural University, aiming to enhance educational practices and align them with current industry standards. The study utilized a mixed research approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to assess the course’s effectiveness in fostering students’ Digital Media skills and teachers’ pedagogical competencies. Quantitative data were gathered through surveys involving students and faculty members, assessing various dimensions such as course content, teaching strategies, and the extent of practical application. The results indicate a gap between students and teacher assessments, with students generally rating the course implementation more favorably. This disparity highlights the need for improved communication and alignment in educational expectations and delivery. Qualitative insights were obtained through interviews and open-ended survey questions, revealing challenges such as insufficient access to advanced technology and limited practical training opportunities. These issues underscore the necessity for curriculum enhancements and increased industry collaboration to provide students with real-world experience. Key findings include a significant difference in the level of competence of teachers, with students rating their instructors’ skills higher than the teachers’ self-assessments. This suggests a potential need for ongoing professional development to bolster teacher confidence and capability in delivering Digital Media education. The study also emphasized the importance of integrating interdisciplinary approaches and innovative teaching methods to better equip students with critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and collaboration skills essential in the Digital Media industry. This research provided valuable recommendations for curriculum planners, educators, and policymakers to refine Digital Media courses, ensuring they remain relevant and effective in preparing students for future challenges in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
