ABSTRACT

This descriptive research aimed to investigate the relationship between the dual-qualified teachers industry skills , teaching competencies as well as their teaching performance. The teacher participants in the study consisted of dual-qualified teachers from the hotel management major at Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Technology and other comparable colleges in Guangdong province. The study investigated 186 dual-qualified teachers, collecting data on their professional ability levels, teaching competence, and teaching performance. The results show that the professional ability of Dual-qualified teachers is generally high, and the level of teaching ability and teaching performance is very high. Moreover, there is a significant positive correlation between the teachers’ level of industry ability and their teaching ability as well as their level of teaching performance. Additionally, there is also a significant positive correlation between their teaching ability and teaching performance. In this study, most teacher participants were aged 40-49, predominantly female, and held master’s degrees. Additionally, majority had over 15 years of teaching experience, and their industry training typically lasted 13-18 months. The study found that hotel management teachers at Guangdong Vocational College of Science and Technology demonstrated high levels of professional ability, teaching competence, and overall teaching performance. However, issues remained in enhancing the industry skills and teaching levels of dual-qualified teachers. These included limited opportunities to learn new industry technologies, outdated teaching design, insufficient reserves of professional knowledge and skills, weak practical ability, lack of practical experience in enterprises, ineffective teaching guidance strategies, and low teaching efficiency. On this basis, this study designed a plan of action to improve teachers’ professional ability, teaching competence and teaching performance. This study also suggests that education authorities and schools should enhance policy development and implementation to support the improvement of teachers’ professional competence, teaching skills, and overall teaching performance. Additionally, dual-qualified hotel management teachers should actively engage in training and continuous learning to further develop their industry expertise, teaching competence, and overall teaching effectiveness.
