ABSTRACT
Practical teaching in the course “Sensing and Detection Technology” categorizes students’ skills and knowledge into multiple levels and assesses their individual competence based on the quality of their achievement of practical teaching learning outcomes. This study proposes four implementation strategies: improving a systematic practical teaching program, attracting target groups, providing a supportive environment, and improving student competence. This study was conducted on second-year students in the Department of Automation and Information Engineering of Pingdingshan Polytechnic College during the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. The study was conducted using mixed research methodology. A questionnaire from the assessment of professional teaching quality was used in this study. This questionnaire was based on the Student Questionnaire for the Sensing and Detection Technology Course, developed by Prof. Zhang’s team for the Outcome-Oriented Multiple Whole-Time Teaching Quality Assessment Project at Pingdingshan Polytechnic College. It has also been utilized in the Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness Project by the Ministry of Education of China. The practical teaching of the Sensing and Detection Technology Course was successfully implemented in Pingdingshan Polytechnic College. Students gained practical skills through the implementation of the practical training program of Sensing and Detection Technology Course. In addition, it was found that there is a positive correlation between the extent of implementation of practical instruction in the Sensing and Detection Technology Course and the participants’ practical skills and performance in the Sensing and Detection Technology Course. Based on these findings, this study proposes a feasible solution to improve the effectiveness of practical teaching of Sensing and Detection Technology at Pingdingshan Polytechnic College.
