ABSTRACT
This study aimed to explore the correlations between students’ interviewing skills, news writing skills and communicative competence at Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Technology. Descriptive-correlational design was used. As participants,236 students across genders,grade levels,and majors were involved.Questionnaire as well as interview protocol were used in data collection.In the data analysis,frequency,percentagemean,t-test,F-test,Pearson correlation,and thematic analysis were employed. In terms of the inferential analysis,t-test revealed that there are no significant differences in the participants level of skills between gender groups;however,ANOVA revealed that there are significant difference in participants level of skills across major and year levels. In addition,there are sianificant relationship between students’ interviewing skills, news writing skills and their communicative competence. Furthermore, the study also found problems and challenges encountered by the participants include limited learning resources,challenges of innovative teaching methods, challenges in balancing theoretical teaching and practical teaching .In light of these research findings, researchers have formulated an action plan aimed at helping Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Technology improve its teaching quality and comprehensively enhance students’ professional skills.
