ABSTRACT
The Employment-Oriented English Instruction model plays a crucial role in vocational education, aiming to enhance students’ employability and practical English application skills. This study assessed the implementation of Employment Oriented English Instruction at Guangdong Engineering Polytechnic. Utilizing a mixed research approach integrating both quantitative and qualitative methods, the study provides understanding of the impact of this instructional model particularly to students’ learning outcomes. The survey involved 200 students from various majors and grades at Guangdong Engineering Polytechnic, along with 15 public English teachers from the institution. The results indicate that students provide generally positive feedback regarding the Employment-Oriented English Instruction, particularly in areas such as learning interest and communicative competence. However, the research also identified several issues and challenges in the implementation process, including insufficient alignment between course content and practical needs, as well as problems related to teacher training and resource allocation. Based on these findings, the researcher proposed specific improvement measures, and a plan of action aimed at systematically addressing these issues and further enhance the implementation of the Employment-Oriented English Instruction at Guangdong Engineering Polytechnic. Finally, the results of the study not only contribute to enhancing the teaching quality at Guangdong Engineering Polytechnic but also provide valuable insights and guidance for the better implementation of the Employment-Oriented English Instruction
