ABSTRACT

Human activities are fundamental to our existence, with educational pursuits playing a crucial role in individual socialization and the development of social identity. Campus cultural activities, in particular, serve as vital platforms for schools to fulfill their educational functions. These activities effectively enhance the comprehensive abilities and qualities of contemporary college students, including the development of emotional skills. In the current educational landscape, it is more important than ever to focus on the holistic development of students, especially in cultivating their emotional intelligence. This study aimed to correlate the extent of cognitive, affective and behavioral engagement and level of social emotional skills of the students in terms of self-management, self-awareness and relationship skills. The study involved 300 students and used a survey questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. In addition, it utilized a mixed research approach employing both quantitative and qualitative methods. The results show that the students assessed their cognitive, affective, and behavioral engagement in campus cultural activities as great extent. Moreover, they assessed that they have a high level of social-emotional skills in terms of of self-management, self-awareness and relationship skills. Furthermore, the study found significant differences in students’ behavioral engagement in campus cultural activities based on gender and year level. Additionally, there were significant differences in students’ social-emotional skills, with gender affecting relationship skills and year level influencing self-management and self-awareness. Finally, the cognitive, affective, and behavioral engagement was positive correlated with their level of social emotional skills in terms of self-management and self-awareness. Based on the problems and challenges encountered by the students, a plan of action was designed to enhance the students’ extent of engagement in campus cultural activities.
